Meet some of the people that make Otonabee College the amazing place it is, year round!
Suni Karir - CRLC
Hi OC! I'm Suni and I'm the Residence Life Coordinator for East Bank, covering both Gzowski and Otonabee College this year! I've been in this role for the previous three years just with OC and I'm looking forward to another amazing year of blue, gold and green! I'm here all summer and it's pretty quiet around the College at the moment, so definitely one of my favourite times at Trent is move-in day. Fun fact... well, my office in OC is in the laundry room. Super random but I love it, there's always lots of activity in there during the day. Sometimes there's even live music, usually guitar or singing. Feel free to drop by anytime next year! I also am a huge animal lover and have a horse that lives about five minutes down the road from Trent that I love to visit when I'm not working. Hope you're all having a great summer and I'll see you on September 1st!
Nicholas DaSilva - Don
The reason I decided to become a don was to test myself in a completely new situation. The experience of living on residence as a leader for new students, rather than as a first year was an opportunity I could not pass up. Hometown: I hail from the city of Cambridge, ON. Portuguese background! My favourite thing about Trent is probably the small community feel. The lower number of students compared to other schools makes the whole school feel like a tight knit group. I'm heading into my second year at Trent, enrolled in the arts & science program! Fun Fact: I love playing board games!!! (Risk champion)
Samantha Edgar - Don
Why you wanted to be a Don: The experiences I had in my first year with my Don are unforgettable. My Don was there for me during tough times and during happy times, and by the time Don applications rolled around I knew that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and be there for others. I love meeting new people and I want to make sure that everyone’s first year experience at Trent is the best it could possibly be! Where you're from: Chatham, Ontario! Favourite thing about Trent: The bridge! Even during the coldest days of winter, I love walking over the bridge. It’s unique to Trent, and every time you walk across, you’re guaranteed to see someone you know. Program and year that you're in: I’m in second year, in the forensic science program. A fun fact about yourself (at least one!): I love playing games. Board games, card games, video games, anything! Settlers of Catan, WOW and Magic are my favourites right now! My hobbies include eating burgers, dancing (badly!) and singing along to songs.
Megan McCandless - Don
1. I had a ridiculous amount of fun living in residence during my first year, and I figured that by being a Don I would be able to help recreate that awesome experience for others. 2. I was born in Vancouver, but moved to Ottawa when I was ten. 3. My favorite thing about Trent is the Otonabee River. It is part of what makes Trent’s campus unique and brings people together whether it’s being used for sports, as a quiet place to study, or somewhere to hang out with friends. 4. I’m in my third year studying history. 5. Fun Fact: I have a twin sister who looks nothing like me. I also have a borderline unhealthy obsession with shoes and hats.
Stephanie Pimenta - Don
I'm Stephanie and I’m going into my 4th year at Trent, in the Honours Arts program with a major in English Literature! I'm from Pickering, ON, which is about an hour away from Peterborough. (: I wanted to be a don because in my first year I was nervous and scared about going to University and moving away from home the first time. My don helped make my transition into university life a fun and easy one, and I wanted to do the same for future students. Residence was truly a home away from home and I wanted to do what I could to make other students have a positive & funtastic experience too! I've always loved helping people any way that I can, and donning seemed like a really great way to do that, and it definitely has been for the past two years, and I'm super duper excited for this year!! : D My favourite thing about Trent is the college system. Being apart of a college really makes you feel like you have a home away from home & the college cheers and the pride that comes from being apart of one is funtastic. Plus collaborated college events provides a great way to feel apart of the larger Trent community! Fun fact: I haven't been on a horse [yet], but I've been on an Elephant ride! Also, I use words like 'mega' and 'super' because it makes things sound exciting and awesome, plus it's fun to say. && I combine words a lot, like funtastic = Fun + fantastic. (:
Jordan Sheedy - LLC Expressions Mentor
I wanted to be the LLC Expressions Mentor because it seemed to be a natural extension of both my involvement in the OC community and my passions. I was involved in House Reps in first year and then ISW and OC Cabinet in both my second and third years at Trent. Becoming involved in the LLC was the next logical step for me. I have always been passionate about the arts, music in particular, becoming the LLC Mentor is going to give me the chance to help foster an environment where students with similar passions can share them and express themselves. Hometown: Stittsville (just outside of Ottawa), Ontario Favourite Part about Trent: The community, it is a small university and that allows you to really get to know a surprising number of fellow students, professors, and college staff. Program: 4th year Con-Ed student with history and English teachables Fun fact: I can play 6 different instruments and I have a scar on one of my front teeth!
Andi Dewar - Don
Hey everyone! My name is Andi and I’m from Kitchener. I’m currently going into my second year as an Economics and Gender Studies major. I’m excited to be a don this year since I love the community feeling in residence. I had an incredible time in res last year, being surrounded by all my friends and having tonnes of opportunities to get involved in awesome activities, and I can’t wait to be a part of it again this year! My favourite thing about Trent is the beautiful campus. I love to sit by the river, go for hikes on the drumlin, or study outside. A fun fact about me is that I took a gap year before university to volunteer and learn Spanish in Argentina and backpack through a few other countries including Chile and Peru. I love to travel, listen to music and can make pretty decent monkey and horse noises. I can’t wait to meet all of you!
Jim Maxwell-Campagna - Don
Hello new students! My name is Jim Maxwell-Campagna, but you can call me Jim M.C for short. I am the Don in H house! I'm going into my third year at Trent. I'm in the Trent Queens Concurrent Education program Studying English and History. I'm from Ottawa so I know what what it's like to leave home! I wanted to become a Don because I had a great first year and my Don really had an impact on me, and I want to share that with all of you. As well, I have always loved leadership programs, and this is just another way to improve myself. My favourite thing about Trent is the sense of Community. As soon as I arrived in my first year, I felt at home. I have met a ton of people who have all become really close to me and I am excited to meet a ton more. I am very involved at Trent, In first year I was a part of the House Reps and Trent Penpals. In second year I was a member of the Otonabee College ISW Saff, Otonabee College Cabinet as a Community Rep and a member of Trent Penpals. A couple of fun facts about me: I love music, you may see me dancing down to the caf, I am a 2010 World Karate silver Medalist and a 2011 National Karate Champion, and I was in H house for my first year! I cannot wait to meet all of you!
Evan Mitchell - Don
Hey OC'ers my name is Evan Mitchell and I am a whopping 24 years old! By the time your reading this ill be filing for old age pension. I wanted to be a don because during my first degree at Trent (yep I've already got one!) I always wanted to get more involved in mentoring young students. I'm from Oshawa... unfortunately, but Oshawa sure does have its upsides... let you know when I think of em! My FAVOURITE thing about TRENT is the amount of love and support that is available on campus, it really is a community unlike any other university in Canada. I'm starting a second degree and I'll be entering my first year of compressed nursing. Something cool about me is that I love comedy and have even done an amateur stand up night... needless to say I was a hit. Cannot WAIT to meet you all next year. I promise if we work hard at our studies and always take time to enjoy life, this up and coming year will be the BEST year of your life.
Brittany Sears - Don
Hey everyone! My name is Brittany Sears and I am majoring in Geography while completing the Emphasis in Education program. This will be my third year at Trent. I love Trent because of its beautiful campus location on the water as well as the close-knit atmosphere of the University population. I amfrom Bancroft, ON, where I spend my summers working at Tim Hortons Coldstone, serving updeliciousness. In my spare time I love spending time on my family farm, as well as traveling. I once spent two weeks living on a riverboat in the Peruvian rainforest! I became a Don because I love working with people, and I loved my residence life experience in my first year, as well as working as a Don last year. I would like to help students make their first year a memorable one as well! This is mysecond year living in OC, I love the sense of community and college pride that all OC'ers have! I am excited to meet all of the first year students coming into OC and I'm pumped to teach you all of OC'scheers. Let's prove to the rest of Trent that we have the most college spirit!!
